Your home maintains your wellbeing

About

It is well known that housing quality and affordability is a big issue in Aotearoa, particularly for Māori, with many whānau experiencing overcrowding and inadequate living environments.

He Tohu Kāinga’s objective is to empower whānau to transition from poverty to wellness by providing affordable housing opportunities – including affordable rentals and affordable ownership.

Our focus is on whānau who are low-income earners. They are either working class or kaumātua who cannot afford home ownership but aspire to own their own home and need a hand up to achieve this.

He Tohu Kāinga
Tenancy Management

He Tohu Kāinga will be assisting working whānau by providing affordable rentals up to 80% of the average market rent, in order to assist them in getting ahead.

When residing on our Kāinga Māori – Tūkōkeke, whānau will be immersed into a papakāinga environment and actively be a part of the community, supported by a Tenancy Manager.

Whānau will be supported to work towards their goals of home ownership by working with their tenancy manager, social and health services and with budget and mortgage advisors.
